can you have to many filters in a fish tank?

i just bout a 72 gallon fish tank and i bout 2 fish tanks that can each handle a 60-100gallon tank can you have to many filters?

In theory, you could, but not because the filtration itself will be overdone, but instead because the currents and water displacements from larger filters will overwhelm your fish. Too much current and displacement can stress fish to the point of death, but that’s not likely unless you’re dealing with sensitive fish to begin with (and why would you overfilter those kind of fish anyway?). Unless you pick up discus fish, you shouldn’t have a problem.

The filtration itself can usually go incredibly over the required amount without any repercussion, and that’s often the case with incredibly large aquariums at zoos or theme parks where whales, dolphins, sharks, or heaps of schooling fish end up creating bursts of toxic waste that must be removed asap. They never have real problems from overfiltration.
