Make a fish pond thawed and insurance?
I am designing a fish pond in the back of the red fish or Koi. Winter area temperatures averaging 26 ° F (-3 ° C) in me. How deep the pond should be in order for my fish to survive the winter? I worry about security have a deep pool with children around. How sure? Are there alternatives to prevent freezing, without a deep pool? Thank you your comments and suggestions!
To avoid freezing in winter, the pond should be at least 3 feet deep. (Although 26 * F is not frozen solid all anyway.) Another solution would be to get a heater, here are some stock tank heaters that work well in a pond as well: http://www.deanbennett.com/livestock-tankheaters.htm As for the breeding of mosquitoes and West Nile virus in the west is concerned, if there are fish in the pond, they eat mosquitoes babies So this is really nothing to worry.
