Cheap Sea Fishing Rods

Sea fishing advice…?
Hello!
I started fishing around a year ago know, but only in rivers and lakes. I’d like to give the sea a try, but dont know where to start!
Do I just stand on the edge of the water and cast?
Do I spin, or bait fish with a very heavy weight?
My rod and reel only cost me £30 (its not the best of rods), which is great for the fishing I do down the river, but do I need a special rod and reel for the sea? Is it a necesity? Could I get away with just sea line?
I can also fish by the mouth of the river… Can I spin there? (I like spinning =D)
Any other info about sea fishing would be great, as Im a complete newbie at it!
Also, I dont really want to spend alot of money on a sea rod, can I get a cheap one that will do a decent job? And if I did have to buy a sea rod, could I coarse fish with it?
Thanks for reading.
Hi,
You do not necessarily need a special rod, but you will need a salt water rated reel.
A good, general purpose rod would be an “Ugly Stik”. They are all purpose & very strong – get medium/heavy action.
You reel will need to be salt water rated or it will cease up on you. Salt water reels have sealed bearings, so the salt can’t get at them. Also, even with a salt water reel, be sure to rinse it off in fresh water after each time out – rinse off all that excess salt.
As far as where to go, you can certainly spin at the mouth of a river, as well as off a beach – but best to fish near structure (bridges, jetties etc.)
Salt water fishing is fantastic. The fish are stronger & more aggressive than fresh water fish & so much fun to catch. If you want to see some salt water videos, check out the link below.
Also, I’ve included anohter link to a fishing tips site which has great information! Good luck & good fishing.
Good luck & good fishing.
